About
Some people look at the forest and see trees. Others find answers, symbols and echoes of something long forgotten.
Blending symphonic metal with folk influences, Solarcycles creates music that is melancholic, mystical, magical and heavy in equal measure. For the Dutch band, nature is not merely a theme—it is a language. A way of expressing emotions, experiences and truths that often exist beyond words. In the world of Solarcycles, mysticism and nature are inseparable.
Each song is a philosophical and spiritual reflection, exploring the hidden aspects of existence. Through lyrics and melody, the band finds a way to express the deeper layers hidden beneath emotions as well as a spiritual depth; things that couldn’t be expressed through words alone. Solarcycles finds that such transcendental concepts and experiences only become tangible within the context of music and art. The band treats every song as a piece of spiritual art that carries valuable life lessons while unearthing hidden aspects of the unconscious, our connection to the soul, and the universe.
Drawing from personal experiences, emotional healing, loss, growth and renewal, their songs reflect the same cycles that can be found throughout the natural world. The changing seasons, the warmth of sunlight, the resilience of roots beneath the soil and the silence of ancient forests become mirrors of the human soul. Through rich atmospheres, dark melodies and powerful compositions, the band seeks to rekindle something many people have lost in modern society: a sense of wonder, reflection and connection with the natural world around us.
Following the release of their debut album LUNAR, Solarcycles quickly earned recognition within the symphonic metal and folk scene. The album was awarded Best Folk Metal Album of 2023, while critics praised the band's ability to blend folk influences, emotion and metal into a distinctive and immersive sound.
Over the years, Solarcycles has performed throughout Europe, appearing at renowned events such as Castlefest and sharing stages with artists including Blackbriar, Battle Beast and Floor Jansen (Nightwish, ex-After Forever).
With the release of Rhythm of the Sun in 2025, and an ongoing collaboration with acclaimed producer Joost van den Broek (Epica, Ayreon, Powerwolf), Solarcycles continues to evolve its sound. Building upon the foundations of LUNAR, the band is moving towards a heavier and more mature musical direction while remaining true to the atmosphere, emotion and sense of wonder that have always defined Solarcycles’ identity.
Solarcycles is for those who find beauty in melancholy.
For those who still hear magic in the wind.
For those who seek meaning beneath the surface of things.
For those who know that nature is more than a place—it is home.
Melancholic. Mystical. Magical.

“The way Solarcycles combines the folk element with metal makes the sound unique. Lunar (the band's album) is epic and actually already legendary.”
“Solarcycles is strikingly capable of making their sound magical. Likewise, there are some standout guitar moments and, like an added vocalist, the violin does a great job providing melody.”
